In the spirit of 19th-century dispatch riders and postmen of the war front, Bivouac Express Co. proudly entrusts a special group of volunteers known as Carriers.
Who Are Carriers?
Carriers are trusted members of the living history community who volunteer to deliver Letters from Home directly to their fellow soldiers when Bivouac Express Co. is unable to attend an event in person. They serve as the critical link between writer and recipient, preserving the authenticity and spirit of mid-19th century correspondence.
Responsibilities
• Receive letters by mail prior to the scheduled event.
• Distribute letters to recipients in their unit (or assigned units) during designated times such as roll call, drill, or camp hours.
• Treat each letter with care, confidentiality, and historical respect.
• Ensure that letters reach their intended recipient or are returned if undelivered.
How to Become a Carrier
If you’re interested in helping preserve the tradition of wartime correspondence while supporting your fellow historians, reach out through our Contact Page or email us directly at mailcall@bivouacexpress.com
Together, we’ll carry the past forward — one letter at a time.

I founded Bivouac Express Company to deepen the reenacting experience through authentic, handwritten correspondence. Our carriers play a key role in bringing these letters to life, helping connect

I began reenacting at a young age along side Brent Reich who drew me to the hobby. It has always been a passion of mine. Delivering these letters is a privilege and a honor. I love that I get to bring a soldier word from home and make their day. It also helps with the morale in camp.
William Hanson
My first reenacting experience was a school function in 1992. Seeing a future friend and his dad doing a very small living history for my school. From there on I was hooked. My goal first and foremost is to bring the most accurate experience to the hobby. Letter writing was their Facebook and Twitter. It was where the news and social norms were discussed. Cameron Wilcox
I’ve been reenacting all my life so 28 years now. Made the transition to fully authentic reenacting about 12 years ago now. I’m apart of the leadership of the parish rifles as well as a member of the independent rifles and liberty guards. My goal is to bring more authentic events to the Trans-Mississippi theater mostly focusing on actions around Louisiana.
Richard Imbriale
I became involved in living history to acknowledge and celebrate the memory of the great generations of our past. I find the legacy of our forefathers to be truly inspiring and I now see it in all facets of my own personal life, as all reenactors do. I very much look forward to serving this community and hope to be one of the many who will carry these traditions into the future.
